Around Stowe

Things to do

Mid September is a beautiful time in Vermont, the first fall colors are often just starting. Stowe is most famous for skiing, mountain biking, and leaf peeping, but has a range of options for outdoor activities as well as shops, restaurants, and many craft beers. If you have any extra time in town, here are some options we recommend.

Outdoor Activities

Stowe Recreation Path

A paved recreation path that goes about 5 miles from the center of town down the river along 108. Great for biking, running, or walking. You can pick it up at the field for the Stowe Farmer's Market next door to Talta.

Cady Hill Forest

A multi-use trail network for moutain biking, trail running, and hiking in the heart of Stowe. Feel free to bring your own bike or rent one. The hotel offers bike rentals as well as complimentary bike storage. Trailforks link

Less Outdoor Activities

Ben & Jerry’s Factory

The classic Vermont stop, in Waterbury just down the road from Stowe.

Map

Percy Farm Corn Maze

Right off the Stowe Recreation Path, sometimes there are baby animals there too.

Map

Smugglers’ Notch Road

Summglers' Notch road is a windy and scenic strech of 108 between Stowe and Jeffersonville. It is particularly popular when the leaves are turning. Beware it is narrow with hairpin turns and doesn't allow large vehicles.

Map

Apple picking

A classic New England fall activity. We usually go in Massachusetts, but Google tells me there are many good Vermont options.

Map

Stowe Farmers Market

If you're looking for something to do on Sunday, the farmers market is nextdoor to Talta from 10am-2pm

Food

Edelweiss Mountain Deli

Open 7 days a week, great spot for a sandwich.

Black Cap Coffee & Bakery

Good coffee and great pastries on the very quaint downtown road.

Woodland Baking and Coffee

Nice space with good cofee, recommend the breakfast sandwiches.

Drinks

Idletyme

Craft brewery and restuarant on Stowe Mountain Road. Has a beautiful beer garden right on the Stowe Recreation Path.

Map

The Alchemist

Craft brewery specializing in IPAs, home of the famous Heady Topper. No food options here, and annoyingly closes at 7pm, so a good option for an afternoon beer.

Map

Stowe Cider

Taproom and backyard space for delicous cider. Kitchen is currently closed, but should reopen soon and we will update this sentence then.

Von Trapp Brewery & Bierhall

Yes, those Von Trapps.
